WHO IS NW-REI?

Our dedicated and experienced staff
The program is headed by a leading, Industry-experienced Director, a Program Manager and 13 Instructors.  Our staff has over 36 years of wind industry experience combined with a passion not only for the Industry, but also for providing quality education and training to those wishing to begin their wind industry careers.  By mirroring the wind industry’s standards, NW-REI strives to take the guess work out of the hiring process and to provide the Industry with well-trained, quality professionals.

The 13 members of our Program Advisory Committee (PAC) have over 85 years of Industry experience among them.  These professionals come from a variety of wind related industries, including manufacturing, training, construction, component repair, wind farm management, and education consulting.

Our educational team maintains Industry relevancy by holding seats on the AWEA Educational Workgroup and has actively involved in other working groups, committees and other Renewable Energy Organizations.

For over 30 years, the International Air and Hospitality Academy (IAHA) and its subsidiaries has been committed to helping employers locate quality candidates which meet their staffing needs and to assisting students and graduates as they begin and advance successful careers.  The IAHA launched its NW-REI division in June, 2009, under the direction of our PAC, with focus directed towards making certain the curriculum supports the needs and requirements of the Industry.

WHY HIRE FROM NW-REI?
Meeting Employer needs while saving the Employer time and money
You receive:

•    Efficiency: Our Career Development department walks our students through a step by step process of Pre-Employment preparation during their 6 months at NW-REI. Time is spent with the students preparing them to communicate the education they have received by the way of their resumes and transcripts. Focus is also made on the ability to answer industry specific questions.  This is put into practice near the end of their program using a highly effective taped mock interview format.  The students also spend concentrated time completing and compiling all documents and required information necessary in conducting a full background check. Our  staff is prepared to assist with your recruitment needs to make hiring as seamless as possible. Simply tell us what         interview style works best for you and we will have it ready upon your arrival.

•     Monthly Access: You will have access to new quality graduates every month with no fees.

•    Team Players: We grade our students not only on what they learn, but also on their ability to work in a team atmosphere. Their transcripts include these performance evaluations, as well as grades and attendance.

•    Safety: We apply LOTO (lock out/tag out) procedures on all equipment, discuss it at weekly safety meetings and ensure LOTO is included in all technical writing exercises,  thus reducing the time required for on-the-job training.

•     G.R.A.P. Geographical Recruiting Assistance Program is our commitment to recruit students from those areas where you need employees.

WHY 6 MONTHS?

Just saying, “I want to be a Wind Turbine Technician” doesn’t make it happen.  It takes someone with dedication, determination and physical stamina to do the job.  In many cases, prospective students don’t have what it takes to be Wind Turbine Technicians. In fact, only 1 (one) in 8 (eight) applicants meet our strict entrance criteria. This is why we can eliminate much of what is included in 2-year training programs - we select only those applicants who agree to daily physical conditioning, random drug screens and who pass a substantial list of pre-hire requirements.  What does this mean for you, the Employer? Our intense training program forces our students to be serious about their career and lets you know you are getting the best quality Wind Turbine Technicians!

ABOUT NW-REI
Our Students attend class 5 days per week for 6.5 hours per day in a focused atmosphere, utilizing a team-oriented learning environment. There are a total of 6 units of instruction which cover the core knowledge and skills to enhance the student’s comprehension and to aid the student in becoming a successful technician. Each unit is taught in its own classroom, where materials and lab equipment are unique to and supportive of that unit’s instructional content and lab work. It is our goal to offer the Industry employable graduates who have a solid foundation, are ready to work and possess skills valuable to themselves and to their employers.

NW-REI was launched in June, 2009.  In preparation for NW-REI’s opening, a Program Advisory Committee (PAC), which included renewable energy specialists and wind industry professionals, was established.  After researching programs offered by other educational institutions and with encouragement from the PAC, NW-REI determined a 6-month core program of instruction was needed by the Industry.
